RADIO BROADCASTING

Radio broadcasting in Morocco

Radio was founded in the early twentieth century, thanks to the contributions of various researchers, such as Maxwell, Hertz, Popov and Marconi. These pioneers inaugurated the use of Long-wave broadcasting. This discovery represented an important advance, above all in the safety and rescue facilities available for seamen.

The first radio broadcasts in Morocco began in 1928. They formed part and parcel of the PTT (the Posts, Telegraphs and Telephones Office) of the time. Moreover, the first radio studios were created in the city of Rabat, on the ground floor of the PTT’s head office, and in Casablanca in the PTT’s offices.

In 1932, the Marrakesh and Fez studios were opened.

In northern Morocco, the Makhzen, that is to say, the state institutions, also had access to broadcasting services, among them, Radio Tetouan.
